I wanted to draw an expression and the hand gestures just told a strange story I was not expecting. Cool!

2/27/14 - Time

Not much time at all today. Always experimenting with age in faces, though I didn't want this guy to be terribly old just yet, just to feel it.

2/26/14 - Animation!

Hey remember that shot from the other day? Well I animated the door in it today and am super busy otherwise, so I'm counting it as my daily drawing! Still tweaking but I like it so far.

Gotta see it in the link, blogger won't let me upload a gif. Above just a still, but without any of the animated part. WELL THEN.

Nevermind, I figured it out! Aw yeah.

2/25/14 - Untrodden Ground

I've been meaning to do more background work and somehow it just felt right to try one today. I'd call this a little more of an experiment than a finished piece by any means, I mostly wanted to play with values (which I think I need to work much more on) and color.

2/24/14 - That Purple Again

Tried out some slightly different things today, I think it turned out for the better. Also my internet was out and I'm borrowing a friend's ethernet cable, so this is going to be brief! As in it's ending right now.

2/23/14 - Someone at the Door?

Super quick one today. Same girl from Day 2, trying out different hairstyles (she's in the late 1950's). Beehives anyone? Maybe, maybe not.

2/22/14 - Turn Off The Dark

Like the Spiderman musical? I always liked that title for some reason.

This is more like how my film's gonna be colored. Still playing around with details; I'm designing background things to be best seen in a dark theater (so turn off the lights to get some more detail on this one!) but do want semi important things to be visible against a white background like this blog has. Everything that my main character, Sheila, touches though should be visible no matter the lighting conditions.

2/21/14 - Bat Man

Welcome to another episode of "Steven Screws Around With Foreshortening".

I don't normally like gradients but somehow it felt like the thing to do here.

2/20/14 - Ah, yes. Cactus.

These shots are going to make no sense out of context/order like this.

Still screwing around with this one. I want to keep the cactus simple, as I need to be able to animate it without it getting in the way, but this shot's going to be one of the closest we get to it so it's hard to decide whether to make it way more detailed or maintain the simplicity. This is attempt #1 at a balance between the two.

2/19/14 - A Slightly Different Course

So I got to thinking today. I really need to step up the speed that I'm working on my 2nd year film, and this blog will occasionally eat up a good portion of my day if I don't let myself get away with stuff. Two problems, one solution? There will be days where I'll do unrelated work, but for the next two months most of these daily drawings are going to be work on the film, whether it's inks, stills, backgrounds, what have you. Once it's done, the random assortment of things will resume.

This is from the first shot of the film. It's not how it's going to be colored (though some of it won't change much), but the inks are probably here to stay. Let's gooooooo

2/17/14 - A Current Self Portrait

I'm feeling sick again and none of my drawings with said sickness are coming out okay, but I did draw a sweet skull in Anatomy this morning so I can share that at least.

2/16/14 - Cocktails Somewhere

After half a day of animating bodies, you miss drawing heads. Tried a couple different coloring options on this one but I really just like the linework as-is.

2/15/14 - Errrrgg

I've got a massive headache today, though luckily I was able to animate a bunch earlier (and for the purposes of this blog, that's sketch-city!). Here's one of my keys, AKA at this point one of the few drawings with a face. I'm gonna go sleep now.

2/14/14 - A Wee Mac

Oddly enough my Maya teacher taught us photoshop techniques, screwing around with those a bit. And Little Mac's in the new Smash Bros! That's cause for celebration. Special quest lies from a special guest up next.

2/13/14 - To Each, Their Own Battles

Somehow today's submitted sketches went from "nah I don't want to post any of these" to "well why don't I just submit two?". Mental processes are weird sometimes.

I'm in a big Metal Gear mood with Ground Zeroes coming out, so expect to see a lot more Snake drawings in the future.

2/11/14 - Production Work!

Not much time for anything else today, so you get some quick layout roughs from my second year film! What you see is pretty much the same scale I'm doing them in, these are just me mapping out what I'm going to need to draw/where horizon lines should be on the final backgrounds.

Fun fact! I drew this on the same page that the sketch for yesterday's drawing came from. You can see a bit of the foot and the monitor on the left. Remember kids, don't overlap your drawings. I do it because I don't plan that far ahead.

Bit scribbly today. Got lots to do and have gotten into a horrible habit of spending too long on these, I'm gonna try and speed things up tomorrow.

Used photo reference on this one, trying to get some more poses taking advantage of the Z axis.

Bit busy today, but I drew this super fast in my Anatomy class this morning and liked how it came out. It's the model on his break! I was technically on break too, but if I'm not gonna stop drawing if he's just going to go in my line of sight and pose again mumblemumblemumble

Another character design from the same thing day 2's drawing is from. This one's more in the early stages though, I don't even know how important this character is going to end up being.

Bit of an off drawing day today. This turned out alright though.

I'm torn in terms of sloppiness on this blog; I want to just churn things out without taking the time to fuss, but then I see very obvious issues with the drawings that I want to fix so badly. Trying to figure out a proper balance for what the blog and I need.
