4/11/14 - So Close

A still from the last shot I need to rough out for the film. Of course, there's lots of clean-up and coloring coming my way, but it's an accomplishment regardless.

4/10/14 - Thin Necks Big Heads

Only have internet for a short while again. Quick warm-up before animating today. Dude from a thing you'll probably see in the future.

4/9/14 - And We're Back

Internet cut out on me for the past few days, and I'm jumping on a network temporarily that might disappear in a sec. But here's some stuff from the each of those days! Stills are on otherwise spoilery shots (that are fully animated now, trust me!), but the gif should be fine.

4/6/14 - Runners

Wanted to draw someone based on an animal, and http://imsmallfry.tumblr.com/ said to do a Gazelle. And here we are...

I'll try and do a full body somethin tomorrow, it's been a lot of heads recently.

4/5/14 - A Test

To save time, I'm switching my process to be nearly entirely in Flash, though I can't decide whether to just clean up the roughs to use as inks or make an ink layer on top of the roughs. This is a test of the former, and I'm not a fan, but we'll see if the latter's any better.

4/4/14 - Really In the Dark Now

Making a very dark background for a shot. Perhaps it was unwise to pick something purposefully barely visible to post...I may put something else up later.

Still deciding on how to shade this, since it might clash with the rest of the film (which is not shaded). We'll see.

3/26/14 - In The Light!

Blocking + some detail on one of the few backgrounds that isn't completely shrouded in darkness. I keep using 1-point perspective on my backgrounds, but I like how it directs the eye in a certain direction so I'll keep using it where appropriate.

3/25/14 - Too Cool For School

Did this one real quick. Lots of animating today but it's all on paper and too rough to show any good stills, but it loosened me up enough for a drawing like this.

3/24/14 - Down you go

Shot I did today. With bonus makeshift grid! I'm not actually gonna use it after all, since this is going to have a camera move on it, but it's useful for framing.

Still more to do here but the movement's looking nice.

3/23/14 - PART TWO: More rough animation!

As promised, a second thing for today (and as it so happens, I did start this yesterday!) Some super rough stuff, but the movement's pretty final.

3/23/14 - Everyone Does Laundry (Hopefully)

Gonna be entirely honest: I completely forgot to post something yesterday when I had the chance. I'll see about posting something more today as an apology, but that's a genuine screw-up on my part.

I did a bit of laundry myself today, though I wasn't thinking about that when I started this. Huh.

3/21/14 - Lit

Rough and a bit blocky, but I think it turned out cool. Just wanted to do something with some interesting lighting between animating.

3/20/14 - Whole World At Your Feet

Yeah, more weird looking stuff out of context! My favorite.

I say this for everything but I'll say it anyway: still fiddling (more perspective on this one I think, and that foot could use a bit more love), but I like what I've got so far.

3/19/14 - Just Walkin

I'm gonna fix the head later but this is a rough creepin walk cycle for one of my shots.

3/18/14 - Nightstand

A WIP for the film. Still fiddling with the perspective on a few elements. A couple of things are missing  (the cactus, the rest of the headphone cord) either because they won't be visible in the shot, or they're to be animated later.

3/17/14 - That Kind of Day

3/16/14 - Swing

Barely made it on time! Or did I? It's exactly midnight when I'm writing this (and now 12:01 that I'm publishing). I ended up re-doing the door and rotoscoping a model I built and animated of it in Maya, and then the character animation's needing more clean-up/re-proportioning, but that's all in good time.

3/15/14 - Get Ready

This is what super rough animation looks like when I start in Flash! Tiny bit of clean-up here to be honest, but I've been trying lately to get things in a state where I can just plug 'em into Photoshop and get straight to inking.

I'm late! I even had this this morning but got caught up in a meeting tonight, and now it's after midnight. Well, what can you do...

3/9/14 - Hard Stare

Screwing around with coloring techniques, though this was more a shading test I suppose. I like it! Now to try getting it without coloring over other lines.

3/8/14 - One Down

It looks like I have to toy with the framerate again (it might just be a gif thing) but here's the first shot of my film fully colored! There'll be a couple more effects in the final version but the bulk of it all's done. 40 more to go finish up now, wooooooo

3/7/14 - Blinds

Another piece for that other film I'm doing. Tried a style inspired by stuff from a DC comic I can't remember. I'll no doubt be trying an approach like this again and will have the details then, it's quite nice art.

Jack Black, whaddya doing in there? You're not in this movie! Unless you want to be, but it's in indie production so you won't be getting as much money but you will be getting more ~*freedom*~.

3/6/14 - Ms. Blake

Productive today, but nothing ready to show from it. Instead, here's a quick thing of the main character of my film! I haven't gotten to inking yet so I can technically still screw around with character design, and I've been meaning to age her up a bit. I think I might have gotten it in the eyes here, which is great because that's a quick fix overall. May try some more things out later.

3/5/14 - The Fear

A second pass at some art for a live-action film I might be doing over the summer. The expression's heavily inspired by the posters for La Haine, a very good French film my sister introduced me to last year.

Interesting how I spent so long on the first pass and it turned out like crap, but loosening up (and applying far more contrast) to this 2nd one got me a result I'm much happier with. And also really looking at photo reference; I tried to wing those eyes on try 1, that turned out to be a headache.

3/4/14 - Pizza Delivery

3/3/14 - Wakin Up

Got to clean this up a bit more (and add the blanket and full pillow to all the drawings), but I spent a good part of the day getting this together. Now you know how the first shot's gonna be animated!

3/2/14 - What was that!?

Gotta cheat today; this was drawn yesterday, but today's being spent on the road, so when I'm able to draw I won't be able to upload it properly. I might submit two tomorrow (one of which being something actually drawn today) to make up for it, but we'll see.

3/1/14 - Where's My Phone?

Animated for a while today, no time to add much more to this tonight. An interesting still in that you see a lot that you won't in the final version (the bottom of her head, some of her forearms, whatever's hidden behind that table that desperately needs adjustment).

2/28/14 - I Can't Believe It

So you're telling me this is what DJs do? Are you out of your mind?

I wanted to draw an expression and the hand gestures just told a strange story I was not expecting. Cool!

2/27/14 - Time

Not much time at all today. Always experimenting with age in faces, though I didn't want this guy to be terribly old just yet, just to feel it.

2/26/14 - Animation!

Hey remember that shot from the other day? Well I animated the door in it today and am super busy otherwise, so I'm counting it as my daily drawing! Still tweaking but I like it so far.

Gotta see it in the link, blogger won't let me upload a gif. Above just a still, but without any of the animated part. WELL THEN.

Nevermind, I figured it out! Aw yeah.

2/25/14 - Untrodden Ground

I've been meaning to do more background work and somehow it just felt right to try one today. I'd call this a little more of an experiment than a finished piece by any means, I mostly wanted to play with values (which I think I need to work much more on) and color.

2/24/14 - That Purple Again

Tried out some slightly different things today, I think it turned out for the better. Also my internet was out and I'm borrowing a friend's ethernet cable, so this is going to be brief! As in it's ending right now.

2/23/14 - Someone at the Door?

Super quick one today. Same girl from Day 2, trying out different hairstyles (she's in the late 1950's). Beehives anyone? Maybe, maybe not.

2/22/14 - Turn Off The Dark

Like the Spiderman musical? I always liked that title for some reason.

This is more like how my film's gonna be colored. Still playing around with details; I'm designing background things to be best seen in a dark theater (so turn off the lights to get some more detail on this one!) but do want semi important things to be visible against a white background like this blog has. Everything that my main character, Sheila, touches though should be visible no matter the lighting conditions.
